Hurricane Tips for 2023

When is Hurricane Season?

Though tropical storms and hurricanes can form year-round, most brew during the six-month Atlantic hurricane season, which officially runs from June 1 to Nov. 30 each year.

Inexpensive ways to prepare before hurricane season.

  1. Install a surge protector. Power surges are common during a storm and can damage appliances or electronics. Adding a surge protector will help protect your electrical panel at a low cost.
  2. Cover your air conditioner. If you have an outdoor unit, it’s possible that airborne debris can hit and damage your unit. Buying a manufacturer-approved protective cover can help save money in the long run. Avoid tarps or garbage bags which could trap moisture inside.
  3. Seal windows and doors. Leaky windows and doors can let in water during a storm. Make sure windows are properly sealed before storms.
  4. Remove debris near your home. It’s a free and easy way to protect your home. Lawn furniture, toys or low hanging branches can turn into airborne projectiles if not stored or removed properly before a storm.
